About
our property

This historic Cotswolds cottage is a luxurious and authentic English country home located in Lechlade-on-Thames, in the heart of the Cotswolds. With its oak beam ceilings, picturesque garden, and roaring fireplace, this cottage has been featured in Harper's Bazaar Magazine as one of the 12 Best Luxury Stays in the UK, and was a finalist for Airbnb's Best Design Stay in 2022. Visitors will be charmed by the cottage's authenticity, cosiness, and historic charm.

The cottage is a Grade II listed building and is believed to have been built as a home for the Canon of Gloucester. The entrance is via a stunning stone archway, which leads to a porch and a jaw-dropping hallway dominated by an ancient flagstoned floor. The sitting room is resplendent with Tudor-style features, including a fireplace and authentic exposed beams that adorn the entire ceiling. The living space is both uncluttered and spacious, furnished with classic velvet chairs and sofas, and perfect for relaxation, reflection, and time spent with loved ones.

The open, vaulted kitchen is perfect for open-plan, family living, with ample space for dining, entertaining, and catching up after a long day of sightseeing in the heart of the Cotswolds. Double French doors lead to a secure courtyard, where visitors can enjoy the glorious Cotswolds sunshine by relaxing at the courtyard table or take a stroll into the Secret Garden for an adventure.

The first floor of the cottage is just as impressive as the ground floor, with two king-size bedrooms adorned by authentic exposed ceiling beams. There is also a fully equipped family bathroom, complete with a shower attachment, and another shower room on the ground floor. A brief climb up the second flight of stairs reveals another stunning king-size bedroom and a small bunk room, making this cottage ideal for family or group holidays.

Lechlade-on-Thames is an ancient market town in the Cotswolds, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in some of the most beautiful countryside in England. The town is ideally situated on the border of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, with easy access to the wider Cotswolds area, as well as historic towns such as Burford, Cheltenham, and Cirencester. The ancient cities of Bath and Oxford are also just a short drive away.

The town offers a range of boutique eateries, family-run grocery stores, butcher shops, antique stores, and the locally renowned Cotswold Tea Shop of the Year. Visitors can choose to dine out or cook up a storm with locally sourced ingredients. The cottage is just a stone's throw from the town centre, so everything is within walking distance.

Guests are encouraged to treat the cottage as their home from home in the Cotswolds and to become part of the welcoming community. There is plenty of on-street parking immediately outside the cottage for those driving, and house-trained dogs are welcome. Visitors are asked to ensure their dogs are well-behaved and respectful of neighbours. For any other pets, guests are asked to contact the owners before booking.

The owners want guests to have an enjoyable and stress-free stay at their cherished cottage, and they will try to be there to meet guests when they check-in. If they are unavailable, a trusted housekeeper will be on hand. The owners can also arrange for a key to be stored in a secure lockbox if guests prefer to let themselves in. This option is perfect for those arriving late and just want to rest.

Overall, this historic Cotswolds cottage with a secret garden is an ideal getaway for those who appreciate luxury, authenticity, and a taste of quintessential English life.
